Laodicia: Revelation 3:14-22

The church at Laodicea was challenged by Jesus to be awakened to a Kingdom reality. They had believed the lies of the surrounding culture that they could find satisfaction and joy in gold, riches, and prosperity, but were blind to the truth - they were actually poor, pitiable, naked and blind.

Philadelphia: Revelation 3:7-13

The Philadelphia church was not powerful in the perspective of the culture, but they had held fast to Jesus and were encouraged to continue doing so. But as we dive deeper into the text, we see that it was Jesus Himself who held the keys, opened the door, and promised to keep the church through intense tribulation and suffering. We are called to live in the tension, trusting that God will finish the work He has begun in us, and we still labor and work, holding fast to that

Stop acting alive when you are still spiritually dead. An appearance of being alive is deadly when there isn’t spiritual life. We must pray for an awakening to the beauty of Christ. It’s through genuine heart change that our lives externally can bring God glory.

Thyatira: Revelation 2:18-28

The church at Thyatira was entrenched in the works of evil, not only tolerating the prophet Jezebel, but joining in the immorality and idolatry. This letter reminds us that our works on earth do matter, because they reveal where our true affections lie. It is certain that Jezebel and her lovers will be destroyed, but for those who love and follow Jesus, there is a promise of hope - we will reign with Him.
