Today, we wrap up our study in Genesis. As we look at Genesis 50, we will see a display of forgiveness between Joseph and his brothers. This provides for us a beautiful picture of reconciliation through the life of Christ. In looking at this picture, we will learn some powerful principles in forgiveness in our own lives.

As the Genesis narrative comes to a close, we see God’s promise coming to fruition in the descendants of Israel. The beginning of a great nation emerges through these blessings, creating the hope and anticipation for a greater King and Kingdom. At the apex of human history is the ultimate fulfillment of these promises—the hope to which this book of beginnings has pointed us all along.

Jacob has learned Joseph is alive in Egypt. Jacob packs everything, and after a moment of doubt he heads out to see his son. God tells Jacob He will be with him and that He will make him into a great nation.  At this moment Jacob shows us how to gain clarity in the midst of uncertainty.

Genesis 42-45

Joseph’s brothers arrive in Egypt to buy grain because of the famine. This journey takes them back to Joseph who has emerged as the second most powerful person in the land. As Joseph reveals himself to his brothers, he models grace and forgiveness. It’s a beautiful picture of the forgiveness extended to us through Jesus.
