Advent 2016

The Advent season is finally upon us! As we enter the month of December as a church family, we wanted to make you aware of several opportunities and resources available to you as 2016 draws to a close.

Advent Guide — The Dawning of Indestructible Joy

Many families and Missional Communities enjoy reading through an Advent Guide together. This year we are recommending Desiring God’s The Dawning of Indestructible Joy by John Piper. It offers 25 short daily readings leading to Christmas day, helping us to stop and reflect on the significance of this season. It can be downloaded for free at the link below.

Advent Sermon Series — Promise of Joy

This weekend we will embark on a three-week sermon series exploring the promise of true joy found in Christ Jesus. Our time will be spent in Isaiah 9 and Matthew 1, looking at the names of Christ and what they reveal about the character and work of our great God. Here’s a brief outline of where we will be going:

  • December 4 - Wonderful Counselor and Mighty God (Isaiah 9:1-7)
  • December 11 - Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:1-7)
  • December 18 - Jesus and Immanuel (Matthew 1:18-25)

Advent Giving — Neverthirst

We are partnering with Neverthirst again this year to provide clean and living water to families in India and Nepal. As we enter a season where most Americans spend significant resources on their own families, would you prayerfully considering how you might be a blessing to families around the world who are in desperate need? In September, we sent a small team to visit some of the completed water projects in northern India and were amazed by the effect these wells had in the villages. Even more importantly, we spoke with local pastors and church leaders who shared how the provision of clean water had opened new doors into communities previously closed to the gospel.

As a result, we are dreaming big this year and setting our goal at funding 20 clean water projects! At a cost of $3,000 per well, this means we are hoping to raise $60,000 toward this amazing cause. These funds can be given online, through mySC3, or in the general offering (check memo: Neverthirst). For additional information about Neverthirst, please visit their website.

Advent Market — Saturday, December 3 from 8am-2pm

Join us at the Madison Building for an incredible opportunity to shop for Christmas gifts from over 70 local vendors while providing clean water to those in need through our global partner, Neverthirst. All the proceeds raised at the Market will go to the “Water is Life” program and will provide clean and Living water to villages in India and Nepal, helping us toward the goal of 20 wells in 2016. Please invite your friends to join in this incredible community event for a great cause!
